WILDWOOD

Why consider building now?

Build
God has blessed Wildwood with remarkable growth over the past three years. As a result of that growth the people of Wildwood began asking for more 'space'. Our executive board had the vision in 1997 to see what God was going to do. They appointed a Vision Planning Committee and gathered input from the congregation regarding building expansion. In 1998, developing a facilities plan was a priority and goal. The Vision Planning Committee was expanded to become the Facilities Planning Committee. Board members visited other churches who had recently constructed facilities like the one we envisioned. We discussed the possibilities of such construction at our semi-annual congregational meeting. After a congregational survey of needs the board devised the specifications for a Family Life Center.
In 1999 we engaged Architect Jerry Grubbs for help in devising a master plan and initial building drawing. This sketch was shown to the congregation at the March business meeting. The plans for the Family Life Center incorporated more Christian education space, particularly for youth and adult ministries, as well as a recreational facility which would enable a wide range of outreach opportunities. Nurseries would be expanded in our existing facility as well.
In June 1999, the executive board voted to proceed with facility planning and begin a fund raising campaign. At the September 1999 congregational meeting, architect Jerry Grubbs presented a drawing and plans for a 35,000 square foot building expansion at a cost of approximately $2.2-2.5 million. Those present voted 117-6 to move forward with the plans. In December, the executive board voted to proceed with fundraising with help from Lifeway Christian Resources.
Today we are in the process of a Together We Build campaign. We desire to raise the necessary finances to construct this facility. We know that a building will not draw people to Christ. But we are convinced that this facility will help us focus on winning people to Christ through creative outreach, building up the believers through expansion of Christian education, equipping believers to reach out to their community
